Derrick Chambers works with families, business owners and professional athletes on the risks that undo financial plans — disability and long-term care coverage, risk assessment and risk mitigation, including specialized placements through Lloyd's of London.
He came to that work from inside it. Derrick captained the football team at the University of Florida for two consecutive seasons and played three years in the National Football League with the Carolina Panthers and the Jacksonville Jaguars. A professional athletic career is short, physically hazardous, and unforgiving of poor planning — a perspective that shapes how he approaches protection for every client, athlete or not. As a member of the NFL Players Association he is a longstanding financial literacy advocate, and has lectured on it in settings ranging from high schools and universities to federal correctional facilities and religious institutions.
After the NFL, Derrick pursued graduate study at the University of Oxford in Medieval Theology and Philosophy, where he was a member of the St Peter's College rugby team, held reader's access to the Codrington Library at All Souls, and took tutorials at Oriel College. He later studied at Princeton Theological Seminary, serving as a Princeton Academic-Athletic Fellow in 2008, mentoring student athletes alongside faculty and administrators.
He has mentored young people in New York City and on the Navajo Nation in Shiprock, New Mexico, and served with the Jaguars for Children Organization.
